2010 CALIFORNIA CLINICAL ASTHMA SUMMIT – Tuesday, JUNE 29, 2010 (8:30-4:00 PM) at The California Endowment’s Center for Healthy Communities, Los Angeles, CA.

Invited Summit Audience:
• Medicine, public health and community health practitioners: Health care providers – including but not limited to physicians in family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics, medical students, medical residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, health educators and community health workers;
• Asthma stakeholders who are involved in assisting people in their communities to better manage their asthma.

Summit Objectives:

* Increase awareness and implementation of effective clinical “best practices and models” to improve the diagnosis, management, and health outcomes of people with asthma in CA. * Increase awareness of the challenges and opportunities associated with the diagnosis, management, and health outcomes of people with asthma in high risk and underserved communities in CA. * Promote collaboration and communication among diverse stakeholders (representing public health, medicine and community) involved in reducing the burden of asthma in CA. * Provide informative and interactive educational sessions offering new information and strategies for asthma stakeholders.

Summit Format:
The event format will include plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and “hands on” workshops that are designed to be highly interactive with case presentations and opportunities for group discussion led by session faculty. Each session will offer evidence-based strategies for the practical application of key aspects of EPR-3. The sessions are being led by nationally recognized experts in asthma care, including two members of the NAEPP EPR-3 Expert Panel.

Continuing Education Units:
For Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Institute for Medical Quality and the California Medical Association’s CME Accreditation Standards (IMQ/CMA) through the Joint Sponsorship of the Perinatal Advisory Council: Leadership, Advocacy and Consultation (PAC/LAC) and California Asthma Public Health Initiative (CAPHI). PAC/LAC is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing education for physicians. PAC/LAC takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity. PAC/LAC designates this education activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education.
For Nurses: The Perinatal Advisory Council – Leadership, Advocacy and Consultation (PAC/LAC) is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing Provider CEP 5862. This course is approved for 7.0 contact hours of continuing education credit.
